V8 Supercars have announced that they will be heading to Malaysia in 2016!
The announcement comes after V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton announced his impending visit to Asia this week to try get another International event on the Calendar for next year.
The deal will see V8 Supercars head to the event for 4 years increasing is global audience.
The V8 Supercars will be the headline act for the Kuala Lumpur City Grand Prix which will be held on a 16 turn, 3,2km Street Circuit (Pictured) which passes by the cities iconic Petronas Towers. The track is said to be of similar characteristics to The Adelaide 500 and Gold Coast 600 Circuits.
5 V8 Supercars, Holden’s Craig Lowndes, Ford’s Chaz Mostert, and Volvo’s Scott McLaughlin, will travel over to the inaugural event in August to perform demonstration laps.
“We are absolutely delighted to begin this partnership with the KL City Grand Prix and be the first international racing series to participate at this spectacular event,” Warburton said.
“This four-year contract is right for the KL City Grand Prix, right for our great V8 Supercars Championship and right for our race teams and right for our sponsors.
“Having four Championship races in Kuala Lumpur until 2019, in close reach of Australia and in a similar time zone for our fans are key ingredients.
“We would envisage that many fans would make their way to Kuala Lumpur to watch us race live on what will be one of the world’s most spectacular street tracks.”
The V8 Supercars will have some GT categories racing with them at the event which is set to be broadcasted to more than 1.2 billion people across 100 countries.
