Kiwi Shane Van Gisbergen has smashed the outright Bathurst lap record during his qualifying run at the Bathurst 12 Hour. Gisbergen is the first driver to break into the 2:01’s setting a pole time of 2:01.286.
Gisbergen set a blistering 2:01.592 in the first qualifying session which put him on the provisional pole. The flying kiwi then went quicker again and broke his own lap record in the second qualifying session.
Gisbergen is piloting a Tekno Autosport prepared McLaren 650s GT3 in his third attempt at the 12 hour enduro. Previously he has taken third spot overall in 2013 and fourth in 2014.
The #75 Jamec Pem Audi R8 of McLaughlin, Rast and Tander will start alongside the Kiwi in P2. In third the father and son combo of Klark and Tony Quinn and Craig Baird line up alongside the Mies-Haase-Mapelli Audi R8. Tekno Autosport’s new recruit Will Davison will start in fifth.
